Objective: The 5 Questions refer to the two CPT Codes listed below. CPT Code 60650: Laparoscopy, surgical, with adrenalectomy, partial or complete, or exploration of adrenal gland with or without biopsy, transabdominal, lumbar or dorsal. CPT Code 49320: Laparoscopy, abdomen, peritoneum, and omentum, diagnostic, with or without collection of specimen's by brushing or washing. 1. Code 60650 would not include different approaches, such as a laparotomy.
2. Code 60650 would include laparascopic approaches from the back or between L1 and L5
3. If the physician planned upon performing a laparascopy with adrenalectomy but upon visualization, decided to abort the surgical operation and viewed the abdomen and peritoneum, the coder would still use CPT Code 60650.
4. Laparoscopy uses an endoscope.
5. The abdomen, peritoneum and omentum are all located in the abdomen region.
